7月21日 Waking up early in a linear accelerator guest houseI've always been kind of reluctant to share my thoughts and feelings on something so public as a blog, but I also like new experiences, so I figure I'll give this whole blog thing a try.
I woke up this morning with the following lyrics playing in my mind:
a man in my shoes runs a light
and all the papers lied tonight but falling over you is the news of the day angels fall like rain and love is all of heaven away inside you the time moves and she don't fade the ghost in you she don't fade inside you the time moves and she don't fade a race is on i'm on your side and hearing you my engines die i'm in a mood for you for running away stars come down in you and love...you can't give it away inside you the time moves and she don't fade the ghost in you she don't fade inside you the time moves and she don't fade don't you go it makes no sense when all your talking supermen just take away the time and get in the way ain't it just like rain and love...is only heaven away inside you the time moves and she don't fade the ghost in you she don't fade inside you the time moves and she don't fade The lyrics are from 'the ghost in you' by the psychedelic furs. They've always struck me as pretty in-depth and long for a pop song.
Lately, I've been thinking about how the best writing (or anything creative, really) about a certain feeling is always better when it has been written by a person experiencing those feelings at the time of writing. Otherwise, there's this emotional disconnect which doesn't really ring true.
I think it's probably the same with the actual singing of the words, for music. If you're currently experiencing what you're singing about, it makes it all the more poignant.
So, to cut a long story a bit shorter, that's why I've always felt it's better to live in the moment and never do things half-assed. I get the feeling Richard Butler was feeling something pretty intense when he wrote and sang this song. He was always a pretty alright song writer, and I'm guessing he went through a lot in those years. He may be a strung out chain smoker now, but darn could he write...
Did you know his brother was the session guitarist for pat benatar and lee aaron? Isn't that nutty? He later went on to better things and joined Richard in 'Love Spit Love'. I am a veritable plethora :) I got that album my first year of law school, a pretty formative time for me. I still think it's great. Everyone probably agrees the seventh song is awesome. Am I Wrong?
Anyway, it's time to head to the conference, so I'll have to end this here.
6月27日 silent alarmIf you've not heard the new Bloc Party cd, you really should pick it up. It's really quite good. I find myself listening to 'Blue Light' and 'This Modern Love', over and over again.
You are the bluest light... 6月25日 ...However hard I try ... know where that's from? :) |
